Just bought an Iron 883 yesterday after wanting one for years. I was very familiar with dirt bikes and rode them growing up so thought I knew what i was getting into. Bike gets to my house and I start riding it up and down the street and not even ten minutes in I drop it due to some gravel and inexperience. Never been more embarrassed in my life but an important learning experience and happy it happened now! Be safe everyone!

I'll chime in with my two pennies. I'm a firm believer in cry once, meaning get what you want. You can get a bitchin 883 for fairly cheap. Learning as you wrench making it a custom part by part. The best part is you'll be riding and out of a cage. Wheels on the road, to me, is far better than a box of parts. Only you know what you can afford and what bike is best for you. Winter brings better prices but custom bikes are big $$$ no matter the season.
